Different dialects
Unlike
most of the islands of the Maldives Addu Atoll has
its own language.A language totally different from
the official language of the Maldives "Dhivehi".For
this reason those people whose mother tounge is
dhivehi could not understand some of the words
spoken by Adduans in their language.
The story of the Addu language "Addu Bas" is said to
be unknown.How the language came into being...Who
actually came up with this language??...these
questions are unanswered.
One of the Specialitys of Addu Atoll includes the
very famous "Dhondeeni"
Known as white tern.White Tern is a special bird for
addu atoll as dhondeeni could not be seen any where
around maldives except addu atoll. Visitors from
other islands bring back dhondeeni to their islands,
however they die.... they cannot survive on other
islands..So Please Just leave dhondeeni alone.
Because they belong to ADDU
ATOLL.
